VRI is an interpreting service provided through video-conferencing to locations that also have video-conferencing equipment. Both the deaf person and the hearing person are in the same location at the remote end of the video conference call. The interpreter is in the call center and he/she sign back and forth to the deaf person and speak to the hearing person who is present in the room with the deaf person. A good example would be a deaf person who has been admitted to the emergency room at a hospital. This service is especially helpful in reaching deaf people in rural areas and other areas where there is a shortage of interpreters. For more information, call 888-345-4910.
